Win this super cool modified Renault Clio RS 182, pure simple thrills with everything needed to destroy cars running four times the power! Nicole? Pa Pa!
Back in the late 90’s / early 2000’s things in the car world were different, and some would say probably the last era of the true hot hatches.
In 1999 Renault released the first of the officially branded Renault Sport cars with the Renault Clio 172 Phase 1, the successor to the Clio 16V / Clio Williams. After this came the 182 Phase 2 (this car) and then later on the more modern 197 Phase 3. All the numbers denoting the factory BHP from the high revving 2.0L motors.
Maybe not massive figures compared with modern cars but these Clio’s are extremely light and very agile, and for the time a 2.0L motor was no joke with most cars this size running half that capacity!
Special cars from a now bygone era, and this particular example is no exception! Benefiting from a recent engine overhaul this one looks cool, has all the correct parts, drives like it’s literally on rails and will have you smiling from ear to ear every time you jump in the hot seat.
The F4R 2.0L 16V motor runs beautifully with it just being completely refreshed including all new gaskets, de-phaser, pulleys, timing belt, aux belt, tensioner, fluids and various other miscellaneous parts so she’s fresh for the new owner. Power circa 190BHP with a Ram Air air filter, Miltek 2.5 inch exhaust system & KTEC remapped ECU, nothing more is really needed. A lot of the engine components including intake manifold have also been powder coated crackle black to freshen up the bay.
Handling is next level on these from factory, this one has the added addition of Bilstein fully adjustable B14 coilovers and a Saftey Devices through dash 6 point roll cage painted in Cusco blue for a touch of JDM. The chassis is super taught and ultra tight with barely any body roll. Sparco bucket seats / TRS harnesses + deep dish OMP steering keep you super connected.
Wheels are the motorsport daddies 15″ Speedline Corse Type 2118 finished in anthracite grey wrapped in Toyo 888 semi slick tyres for all the grips. Brakes are spot on with fully rebuilt callipers, new disks and new pads front and rear. Callipers have also been painted Cusco blue for more JDM brownie points.
Carbon fiber bonnet, carbon fiber front splitter and carbon fiber front ducts are a nice subtle contrast against the black paint work. Black paint is scruffy in places but polishes up nicely, this car has been to tracks but as a weekend track toy it’s exactly how you want it, ready for full sends and still looks shiny enough for when you fly past GTR’s.
All she needs now is a new owner. If you like proper cars, fancy something that is cheap to run with the ability to pop to the shops, send it on the weekend at the track, and then literally drive it home for work the next day then this little baby is for you!
